MahaPeriyava's visit

Happy New Year and Happy Pongal to all. A few days ago, I received an email from Ambi Anna with MahaPeriyava's photo [below],

Mahaperiyava HH Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal at the residence of Dr. Mandalam Subramania Iyer, No. 16, Kutchery Road, Mylapore (circa early 1932)
.. and the following writeup.

Sridhar:

A few years ago I shared with you a photo of Maha Periyaval Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt, from my album.
The photo was taken circa early 1932 at the residence of Mannima's grandfather Rao Bahadur Dr. Mandalam Subramania Iyer, a well-known medical doctor of Mylapore during his period. Dr. Mandalam Subramania Iyer is standing on the far right in the photo. The boys in the photo include Mannima's cousins and one uncle.

The location is the garden (near the out house) in (then) No. 16, Kutchery Road, Mylapore (Madras) opposite Arundale Street. Rayar's Cafe [*] occupied a small portion of the house in later years after my grand uncle sold the house.

I gather that one of my cousins recently provided a copy of the photograph to Bala Periyaval Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal at his request.

Incidentally, Maha Periyaval's very second Bhiksha was at the residence of Perippa's grandfather Thirumayam Ramaswami Iyer.

Warm affection.
Ambi Anna
